It’s impossible to properly illustrate, because what is shiny silver in life photographs as white, but this is the splendor of a dull gray granite gravestone when the sun strikes it and reflects bright and dazzling on all the little flakes of mica.  The gray bits are how this whole stone would look if the sun weren’t shining just right.  It’s one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.

Meanwhile, have I mentioned the isinglass window in the old woodstove at the cottage??  Oh my God.  I love mica.
